Travel to Poznań

Please consider more environmentally friendly ways of travelling to Poznan, especially if you are travelling overland. There are various options to consider which could significantly reduce your carbon footprint.

By train: Poznań is well connected with international rail network. Check your connections and book your tickets using the local booking page PolishTrains.eu, PolRail or use booking sites for pan EU train tickets (DeutcheBahn for example). Make sure to secure your tickets early for better prices and availability, particularly if you are travelling from further afield.

By bus: major bus services also provide connections via Poznań, often with changes via major hubs like Berlin or Warsaw, see Flixbus, Omio, BusBud, Ecolines etc.

By car: Poland has good highway system combined with narrow, busy rural roads with trucks and mixed traffic. EU/EEA national licence (with photo) is valid in Poland for up to 6 months. Vehicle registration and insurance is required.

Highways are toll free for passenger cars.

By plane: there are direct flights from most European countries. Poznań–Ławica Henryk Wieniawski Airport (POZ) is roughly 8km from the city centre. The usual method of travel from the airport to the city centre is by busses 148, 159 and 222 (nightbus) which takes approximately 20 minutes ending at Kaponiera, where you can transfer to other forms of transport depending on your accommodation destination.

Getting around in Poznan

On VisitPoznan website will find practical tips on getting around the city, must-see attractions, and the best places to enjoy local cuisine.

EAJS conference takes place in Adam Mickiewicz University Novum Iuridicum (Faculty of Law) building, however the opening keynote will take place in the historic Collegium Minus building located a short (20min) walk away, or 2 stops by bus.

You can orient yourself using local city tranport app ‘Jakdojade’ or use Google Maps to see which public transport to use.

Public tranport: you can buy electronic tickets using followins apps in your mobile phone:  jakdojadę, MoBilet, mPay, SkyCash, after purchasing the ticket in the app you must activate it by scanning the QR code located inside the vehicle or entering the provided vehicle number.

Or you can buy a ticket using a terminal for your debit card in the vehicle. Terminals are available in all trams and buses – in this case tickets are recorded on the debit card.

Cycling: if you are a keen cyclist, or just fancy a quick way to get around the city, Poznan is an excellent city for cycling. It has green corridors running to the north/south and east/west, it also has two nature reserves and Adam Mickiewicz university is situated in one of them.

Check out best local cycling routes and bicycle hire options (for example In Your Pocket and Bike Hire).

Electric Scooters: another very popular alternative for getting around Poznan would be to utilise the local electric scooter infra-structure  and the city‘s promotion of sustainable mobility. Hire your electric scooter through Lime or Bolt.

Accommodation

Poznan has a wide selection of accommodation opportunities. You can use Booking.com or AirBnB mediator portals to find the best option for you.

There is also a student dormitory close to the conference venue that offers accommodation for a reasonable price. Rooms there can be booked directly:

In the email subject write “EAJS Conference” and include the following information in the email:

  • your first and last name,
  • your planned dates of stay.

Currency

The currency in Poland is the zloty which has the offical code PLN. Use this link to a useful currency convertor. Currently the exchange rate is about 4.20 zloty to 1 euro and just over 4.80 zloty to £1 (obviously there is some daily fluctuation in rates).

Normal methods of payment are acceptable credit/debit card , also have some cash available as some traders prefer cash. Mobile payments are also acceptable or a pre-paid travel debit card.

It is always a good idea to have more than one payment method available.

Plug sockets

Remember to pack adaptors, you will need a European two-prong adapter if you have devices that use other plugs.

Only five Continental European countries use the slightly different, but fully compatible, French type E standard (France, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic & Slovakia).

The electricity standard in Poland is 230 Volts AC, 50Hz (the standard frequency in Poland).

Telephones & Cell Operators

The international access code to Poland is +48, and the prefix number for Poznań is 61.

To dial an international number from Poland you need to precede your country number with 00 (double zero).

Cellular telephones: All three operators use dualband system: GSM 900/DCS 1800. DCS 1900 is not available. The major operators are: T-mobile, Plus, Play and Orange.Poland).
