2023: Ghent, Belgium

EAJS2023, the 17th International Conference of the European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS) was hosted by the Institute of Japanese Studies at Ghent University from 17-20 August 2023. During the Call for Panels and Papers 387 individual papers were submitted, 310 were accepted; 127 panels were submitted, 106 were accepted. The conference took place in hybrid format, with 21% of delegates opting to participate online. 

Logged-in delegates can watch recordings of the panels (beneath the papers on the panel pages). These will remain available for the foreseeable future.

Format

The conference was hosted by the Institute of Japanese Studies at Ghent University and took place in hybrid format, allowing participation both face-to-face (f2f) in Ghent and remotely over Zoom.

Plenary events took place using Zoom so both online participants and f2f participants who were unable to enter the auditorium due to capacity issues (Covid or other), could watch, with the Chair taking online questions via the Q&A function.
