Statement
I am honored to be nominated as a candidate for the EAJS council. A political scientist by training, my work focuses on regional inequalities, agricultural reform, local governance, and social welfare in Japan. From my time as a PhD candidate to my current position at Leiden University, I have gained experience with research and teaching about Japan in different academic and institutional contexts in Europe and Japan. If elected, I hope to be able to use some of these experiences as a member of the EAJS council.
Since I first joined in 2014, I have come to value the EAJS as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange with a growing network of colleagues and friends from Europe, but also from Japan, the U.S., and other regions. The 2014 EAJS conference in Ljubljana was my first international conference and one of the first opportunities to present my work as a PhD student. With this positive experience in mind, I would like to contribute to keeping the EAJS – and especially the conferences – inclusive and accessible for early-career scholars and students with limited resources.
